The Best & The Worst Gluten-Free Vegan Products Of 2018 (Malaysia)

The Best & The Worst Gluten-Free Vegan Products Of 2018 (Malaysia)

From the pan to the pen, here is the Gluten-Free Vegan Baker's review of the best and the worst of the gluten-free vegan products of 2018 which are available in Malaysia.  This review is dedicated to all vegans in Malaysia and beyond who are also in a gluten-free diet.   A number of gluten-free vegan products have been reviewed by the Gluten-Free Vegan Baker and a few have successfully ended the year 2018 on a high and one product is deemed the worst of the worst of 2018.  Coincidentally, both the best and the worst are gluten-free vegan cheese products.

The Best Gluten-Free Vegan Products of 2018

Nature & Moi Dairy Free Cheddar Cheese Slices

Nature & Moi Dairy Free Cheddar Cheese (Grated)

In terms of taste & texture, Nature & Moi Dairy Free Cheddar Cheese Slices & Grated are by far the best gluten-free vegan products of 2018.  I consider them superior in quality, flavor and above all, versatility.  They are, without a doubt, a cut above the rest of the gluten-free vegan products I have tried and tested.  Nature & Moi Dairy Free Cheddar Cheese Slices & Grated will forever be part of the Gluten-Free Vegan Baker's trusted arsenal of gluten-free vegan products.

The Worst Gluten-Free Vegan Product of 2018

Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative

In terms of flavor and texture, Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative is the worst gluten-free vegan product of 2018.  This gluten-free vegan Parmesan cheese product is rated inferior and unsatisfactory in many aspects.  It is a product that is lacking, substandard and leaves much to be desired.

Gluten-Free Vegan 101 Review - Gluten-Free Vegan Parmesan Alternative (Malaysia)

Gluten-Free Vegan 101 Review - Gluten-Free Vegan Parmesan Alternative (Angel Food)

From the pan to the pen, here is the Gluten-Free Vegan Baker's review of one of the current gluten-free vegan products available in Malaysia.  This review is dedicated to all vegans in Malaysia and beyond who are also in a gluten-free diet.  For the sake of all vegans, this review will make no reference or comparisons to non-vegan products.

Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative

(Ingredients: coconut flour, sunflower oil, salt, yeast extract, natural flavor (dairy free & vegan), citric acid, white pepper, antioxidant (natural herb extract)).

Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative Smoky

Verdict:  Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative from New Zealand is 100% vegan, dairy free, gluten free and soy free.  Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative contains many ingredients that I find in genuine gluten-free vegan products.  It contains coconut flour which is one of my favorite gluten-free vegan ingredients.  It even exudes the sweet aroma of coconut.  However, I'm really conflicted with this product.  First of all, the Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative retains its dry powdery texture and does not melt.  Second, on its own this product tastes like a non-vegan food.  The taste reminds me of powdered hard-boiled egg.  In other words, it tastes like hard-boiled egg.  Since I used to be a non-vegan, I know what hard-boiled egg tastes like and it tasted like hard-boiled egg.  It even had that powdery texture of hard-boiled egg yolk and the pale yellow color of this product is quite reminiscent of hard-boiled egg yolk.  I didn't like eggs and it's one of those foods that I find repulsive and disgusting.  I strongly disliked eggs and never had the will to eat them.  In terms of flavor, I find this parmesan a bit off-putting and it didn't seem to compliment many vegan dishes.  The company suggested putting it on sliced fresh tomatoes.  Tried it --- it was no good!  It was a bit overpowering as a parmesan alternative on tomatoes.  However, I tried putting it on top of steamed broccoli and voila... it actually tasted better than expected.  That was the only food on top of which I would put this parmesan and nothing else.  It doesn't go well with tomatoes but does amazingly compliment broccoli quite well.  Only a strong smelling vegetable like broccoli can find a way to make this parmesan alternative work.

As a whole, I was very disappointed.  I really had high hopes on this product when I read that it contained a coconut ingredient.  The egg-like taste was the major disappointing factor.  Furthermore, this product is very pricey.  It was a huge letdown so therefore, Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative will not be included in my favorite list of gluten-free vegan cheese products.
