VerdictAngel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative from New Zealand is 100% vegan, dairy free, gluten free and soy free.  Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative contains many ingredients that I find in genuine gluten-free vegan products.  It contains coconut flour which is one of my favorite gluten-free vegan ingredients.  It even exudes the sweet aroma of coconut.  However, I'm really conflicted with this product.  First of all, the Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative retains its dry powdery texture and does not melt.  Second, on its own this product tastes like a non-vegan food.  The taste reminds me of powdered hard-boiled egg.  In other words, it tastes like hard-boiled egg.  Since I used to be a non-vegan, I know what hard-boiled egg tastes like and it tasted like hard-boiled egg.  It even had that powdery texture of hard-boiled egg yolk and the pale yellow color of this product is quite reminiscent of hard-boiled egg yolk.  I didn't like eggs and it's one of those foods that I find repulsive and disgusting.  I strongly disliked eggs and never had the will to eat them.  In terms of flavor, I find this parmesan a bit off-putting and it didn't seem to compliment many vegan dishes.  The company suggested putting it on sliced fresh tomatoes.  Tried it --- it was no good!  It was a bit overpowering as a parmesan alternative on tomatoes.  However, I tried putting it on top of steamed broccoli and voila... it actually tasted better than expected.  That was the only food on top of which I would put this parmesan and nothing else.  It doesn't go well with tomatoes but does amazingly compliment broccoli quite well.  Only a strong smelling vegetable like broccoli can find a way to make this parmesan alternative work.

As a whole, I was very disappointed.  I really had high hopes on this product when I read that it contained a coconut ingredient.  The egg-like taste was the major disappointing factor.  Furthermore, this product is very pricey.  It was a huge letdown so therefore, Angel Food Dairy-Free Parmesan Alternative will not be included in my favorite list of gluten-free vegan cheese products.
