Dairy-free cheese is a great staple to any vegan kitchen.  It is incredibly invaluable in vegan pasta dishes, pizza, grilled sandwiches, burgers, casseroles, etc.  It is also considered as an essential tool in every vegan baker's arsenal.  Vegan cheese can be used in making baked goods like vegan cakes, cupcakes, brownies, muffins, pies, cookies, bread, etc.  Finding the right vegan cheese shouldn't be a problem anymore for vegans or non-vegans who are planning to try a vegan diet.

  2. Hi there. As a baker, what sort of cake frosting would you recommend for Vegans? Appreciate your input on this, thanks!

  3. Dear Nikita,

When making cake frosting, I like using vegan ingredients like butters (e.g. nut butters, seed butters, coconut butter, etc.), vegan yogurt and vegan cream cheese that give structure to frosting. A combination of any of these ingredients results in a creamy, smooth and delicious frosting that is low in sugar or sugar-free. A vegan frosting is so much healthier than the non-vegan frosting which is usually loaded with tons of icing sugar and dairy. Vegan butters, vegan yogurt and vegan cream cheese can be very expensive and hard to find in Malaysia. I suggest using ingredients that are accessible and affordable to you. You can make a vegan frosting that is more affordable by using ingredients like peanut butter (if you don't have peanut allergies) and a non-dairy margarine or vegetable shortening.

Let me know how it goes...

    Regards.
